Experience

Equity and excellence for all is a call to action.

Educator

As a classroom teacher in the Cambridge Public Schools, the work toward equity and excellence was a daily practice. Within the culturally, socioeconomically, and linguistically diverse community of my school, teaching required building a classroom of belonging. I built trusting relationships with students and caregivers to give voice to their experiences within the classroom. I collaborated with our special educators to ensure every student had access to dynamic and rigorous work. Exploring history through a social justice and project based program, my students and I made discoveries of our self and the world around us every day.

At the intersection of practice and policy, my work as a math instructional coach remained focused through a student centered lens. Coaching newly formed teams at middle schools in Cambridge, I promoted a reflective practice and a growth mindset - for students as well as teachers. Our coaching team worked with administrators to construct school improvement plans and set school wide goals. Improving instructional practices starts from being curious about what the evidence of student learning reveals. Challenging assumptions about data, we used Harvard's Data Wise process to better understand student strengths and challenges. As a coach, I helped teachers translate this understanding into action as improved and targeted instructional practices.

Community Advocate & Volunteer

As a parent raising two children in Arlington, I found more opportunities for action. I currently serve on Town Meeting and the Math Pathways Taskforce. I learned how we can improve our culture of belonging as a contributor of the town's Equity Audit. I invested in the future of our schools while collaborating with neighbors, teachers, students, and administrators as part of the Strategic Vision and Planning Team.

To better serve our community, I attended Arlington’s Civic Academy, where I learned from and engaged with our town's leaders. As President of our Brackett PTO, I ensure our students receive educational enrichments, our staff are equipped with supplemental supplies, and our community is connected and informed.

Aware of the present challenges and opportunities that exist in Arlington, I knocked on doors to garner support of our last budget override as a Precinct Captain. I am doing the same this year as a member of the Steering Committee & Precinct Captain for our Vote Yes to Keep Arlington Strong campaign. The result of this year's override will have critical consequences for Arlington. Being fiscally responsible is a necessity, and so is investing in the continued strength and excellence of our amazing community.

The call to action to serve on the School Committee is a continuation my dedication to public education and Arlington.
